My Website Design Review

Did I mention I had my website reviewed over at Eef Designs? Erin Flynn is all over the internet with her design website and her personal blog, and she's such a cool chick! Watch my website review below, and be sure to check out her other posts! She's full of wisdom like Alternative to Passionfruit Ads, How to Check Your Email Using Gmail, and 5 Elements Every Website Needs!

To see my full review, check it out right here!

To me, it's so important to get other opinions on my website to build a better blog. Here's my opinion and reaction to her review!

The Header: Seriously, I hate my header. I hate that font, and I hate how small it is. Erin hated my header too

Solution: I changed it! My header is now some pictures of me and my adventures and feels a lot more authentic! I left the black so it ties in with the rest of my blog!

Sidebar: Picture needed to be higher, strange break in the lines, no blurb about me, scrolling Instagram, awkward sponsor spacing

Solution: I switched my picture a little bit and moved it up, but those lines still don't line up! I think that looks awkward, but at the moment an entirely new blog template isn't going to happen. Soooo... deal with it ;) About the scrolling Instagram, well. I like it, and it's my blog so I do what I want! For the sponsor spacing, I was in the process of switching from self-supported sponsorship to Passionfruit, and had a couple of ads that were inconsistent with the rest. That has since changed, but no matter what I do, I just can't seem to get the side widths to match up!!

Navbar: No about page, Awkward contact page

Solution: I added an About Me page, and a little blurb about myself! I've revamped my Contact Page, changed the photo and made it a bit more me!

Body: Images not lining up with text, body not wide enough, too much info on one page, signature shouldn't be pinnable

Solution: I've changed the width of my entire blog and made it much wider, yay! I've also figured out how wide to make my photos so they line up perfectly! Although boo for old awkward sized photo posts! I've changed my blog to only display 3 posts/page, because they are typically quite picture heavy. I was thinking about starting to try and split my posts up by adding a "read more" button, but I find that pretty annoying when I'm searching for new blogs.  I have actually removed the pin it hover option, I don't think it's useful at all, it's probably just more annoying than anything!

Thanks so much Erin, your feedback was so helpful!

Build A Better Blog: Link Up Love!

Just stopping by to say you should probably head over here (or here, or here, or here) and link up with some lovely ladies and meet some new bloggers!

Link ups are a great way not only to get your name out in a wider circle, but to meet new bloggy friends! I'm no expert but I've found that blog link ups have boosted my stats incredibly!

Some people think that they'll link up their name, follow the hosts and bing bang boom - followers! Right? Wrong. Blog link ups require a bit more work. I like to post a comment on every blog I follow, comment on every Facebook page, and Tweet at every twitter. Sample posts are something like this:

**It is a huge deal for me to follow bloggers that I really love their content, but that doesn't mean I descriminate because you don't have a custom made blog design or the highest quality photos. Quality beats flash any day!**

To anyone who has found me through the Weekend Blog Block Party, Hi! I'm Becky! It's wonderful to meet you! I'd love it if you'd shoot me a comment/message/tweet/carrier pigeon, I'd love to get to know you!!

Here are a couple of my favourite posts, look around, stay a while!

Thanks for stopping by!

Part One of Beautiful Blog Logos and Finding The Perfect Blog "Outfit"!

I spend a lot of time wandering around the internet and a lot of time checking out other bloggers. On the internet, your blog is kinda like your outfit. People check you out and notice all the great things that you have going on! Like an outfit, it shows your personal style and they way you want to represent yourself to the world.

These lovely ladies have been kind enough to let me show off their blog designs to you!

While I am in the process of building my very own blog "outfit" I think it's fun to see what other people use to represent themselves on the internet! It is important to note what you do/don't like in a blog logo. You're not copying anyone's work, you are just drawing inspiration to eventually have a clear picture of what you envision.

What kind of style of blog logo do you like? Do you like clean and simple or with pictures? Find your own blog logo identity through what you do/don't like in others!

Build A Better Better Blog: Colour Inspiration Board

photo better-blog_zps2ecae6c0.pngLately I've been trying to find my "blog identity" and I've been scouring the internet for lovely pictures to create a colour story that feels more... me! I use Pinterest (it's super helpful, check out my board here) to pin a random snapshot of things I love! I pin clothes, food, infographics, photographs, typography, anything that inspires me.

Here's a collection of images that inspire me!

- I love the gold script with the wooden crates, the hard and soft is just adorable.
- Chalkboards always amaze me so I know they need to fit somewhere into my colour story.
- The feathers from this dream catcher are so perfectly whimsical and realistic, the rusty colour is my favourite!
- This black and white wedding dress is so super cute, I love the mixture of textures and simple black and white has always been my favourite.
- The caravan is so dreamy and romantic, I love the sunwashed look! (BTW, take a peek inside of it! sooo cute!)
- The colour story is all my own, it's a mix of story eight (found here) and a couple of new colours inspired by this board!!

I highly suggest you start a board on Pinterest and pin what inspires you, you'll be surprised to see a theme emerge! Shoot me a link if you decide to share your colour story!

Build A Better Blog with Seductive Mania!

Hi! I'm not exactly new to the blogging world, but I'm new to design. I've found that there are a lot of amazing blogs and blog designs out there, a lot of good resources, but not a lot of people telling you how they get from point A to point B.

I am no expect at design. I am no graphic artist, or artist of any kind really. I love food and I know how to make that look good if that gives me any sort of qualification for putting out such an outlandish build your blog better statement.

However, I am learning. I am just like most of you lovely little bloggers out there, drooling over the designs at our favourite blog hideaways. How do they get that navbar to stay on top always but look so freaking cute? How do you even decide what fonts to use, there are SOO many!? Does it really make a difference if I left align my text?

Consider me your scientist, I am going to share my own personal blog design journey, and give you the same tools and successful processes (along with inevitable failures and disasters) to potentially Better Your Blog!

Hang in there, I have a feeling this is going to get a little ridiculous and a lot adorable!
