Splendour Friday: Splendour in the Awesome 2013

Yesterday we left off in Byron Bay with my okay burger and a pretty awesome lighthouse. We then travelled another 20 minutes up the road and found our way to the North Byron Parklands, home of Splendour in the Grass.

So we decided to go a day before the actual festival began (Thursday) and there were well over a thousand other people who had the same idea. We were slotted into parking lot D which I'm assuming meant A, B, and C were already full and by some stroke of birthday magic luck we ended up in the fast lane. We were the last lane of the last parking lot which for some reason meant we moved first! There were people who looked like they had been waiting for hours and hours and hours and we waited maybe a total of 30 minutes. Lucky us! We barely got searched and after a little incident involving ripping apart the car looking for my wallet (it was in the suitcase.. oops!) we were parked and ready to set up camp, smuggled booze and all.

^^Us on Friday morning after a good nights sleep in the tent (not!), look at all of those cars! There were probably over 5,000 cars parked all along everywhere!^^

^^ We made fast friends with a couple from Sydney, Lauren and Dean. It was so much fun to have another couple to hang out with over the weekend! The first photo was from the very first night we met. Loz and I danced while the boys stood and awkwardly swayed drinking their overpriced Smirnoff drinks. You know, like boys do!^^

^^Sleeping in a tent was pretty uncomfortbale, we decided to really rough it (aka it was both of our first times camping and didn't really know what to bring) and we slept just in our sleeping bags on the ground. It was hard and kinda like a water bed with all the rain we kept dealing with! You can see my greasy greasy haven't had a proper shower in 4 days and dry shampoo just isn't cutting it anymore hair (don't judge me, those showers were disgusting and there was literally always a line up of 20+ girls. Baby wipe showers and lots of deodorant for me!) We had a pretty sweet setup in our teeny tiny tent, a tarp underneath us as a little bit of a porch, and some star twinkle lights that never worked.... I'm not joking one of the tents had a chimney. It was like Harry Potter except where is my magical tent?!^^

^^ We absolutely lived in gum boots. (rain boots, wellies, etc) I'm so happy I brought a pair, we ended up having to buy Trent a pair for $50 at one of the overjoyed merchants yelling TGFR (Thank God For Rain). The setup of Splendour was incredible (except for the portapotties but thankfully I'm not embarrassed about carrying my own toilet paper and peeing in a bush... again, don't judge me!) That's Trent and Wilfred, which is pretty exciting... apparently. It was a gigantic venue with so many things to do and see and buy $$$$$. We sampled a whole bunch of the amazing food, the sausages up there are from The Brat Haus and were sooo sooo good! That gorgeous Kombi is part of some coffee house of which the name currently escapes me (although they made a great cappuccino!) and all I wanted to do was hug it!^^

^^ Obviously the biggest reason we were at Splendour in the Grass was the music! Hands down my favourite act of the weekend was Passion Pit, but I loved Snakadaktal, Lorde, Mumford and Sons, and we were beyond thrilled to hear that Lorde was a last minute edition to the lineup!! Here's a playlist I put together of my top 10 songs from the weekend:^^

After 4 days of too much Smirnoff and mud, and a severe lack of sleep or hygiene we headed back on the road. No need to thank me Splendour, thank you.

Now, Splendour isn't the only thing I did on my birthday... tomorrow I'll show you what my awesome boyfriend got me for my birthday!!

The Last Of Splendour Friday!

Oh my gosh I'm soooo super excited! I know I've missed my last 3 (wow, 3!? For shame!!) Splendour Friday posts, but I have been listening to music from Splendour in the Grass constantly getting so amped! Next Friday I'll actually be there! Listening to this AWESOME music live!!

First up... The National! Straight out of Ohio they formed this American indie rock band filled with dulcet yet romantic tones of the lead singers voice, matched with a great baseline. (Does that even sound legit? I feel like sometimes I'm describing wine and trying to make it sound better. But seriously, these dudes are awesome!)

Second an act I'm really excited to see... Passion Pit! Wikipedia says they're American indie pop, but I'd just like to say I think they sound cool and original and essentially just badass. I'm a huge fan of Passion Pit, they're so easy just to dance around to in the shower or you know while you're straightening your hair in your undies... (You don't do that? I do... Awkward)

Finally... Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes! I'm just gonna throw it out there that you probably won't call them American indie anything. They're probably more like American indie grab your poodle skirts let's go for a sock hop and drink milk shakes! I love this song, it's adorable, I'm thinking I may have to drag the boyfriend to their show!

And this concludes Splendour Friday (Still... omg... next Friday... freaking out!!)

If you're going to Splendour let me know! We could meet up! I'll be the one in the 21st Birthday Tiara!

Splendour Friday (On Monday...) 9/13

4 weeks to go! This is insane, where is time going?! It's all getting so close, I remember when I did my very first Splendour Friday post! Also, sorry for my tardiness, I actually wrote this post on Friday just never clicked publish. Silly Silly.

This week we're talking about Cold War Kids! They're a badass American indie band out of Cali! Their bizarre but eclectic mix of soul and punk makes them perfect for listening on a crisp autumn night with a cup of spiked apple cider and a sweater clad dance party on the cold tile floors!

Now, enjoy the smooth sounds of Miracle Mile!

Splendour Friday 8/13

Oh my gosh 5 weeks!! The anticipation is KILLING me! This week, you get to hear the awesome raw sounds of...

WAVVES!

Pretty freaking cool music video too, if you ask me. WAVVES is an American Rock surf band from San Diego! They started up in 2008, and have since released 4 full length albums!

I can't wait to see them at Splendour!

Are you going? Is there anyone you're excited to see?

Splendour Friday 7/13

I can't believe there are only 6 weeks until Splendour in the Grass AND my 21st Birthday!!

Splendour Friday 5 and 6/13!

Weellll, looks like I skipped another week. Bad blogger! So to make up for it here are TWO of my favs that are going to be at Splendour in the Grass for my bestest birthday party ever! (Yes, I've decided that all 50,000 people there are going in celebration of my 21st birthday)

First up, Chet Fakers' cover of No Diggity. I love covers of this song. Seriously, how could you not?! Smoothed out gangsta rap is my fave!

Second, Flight Facilities (feat Giselle) Crave You. The sweet sounds of Giselle's voice paired with the witty lyrics and great beat, instant addition to the driving playlist!

Are you going to Splendour? Have you ever even heard of it?!

Thanks for indulging another day of my awesome musical taste!

Splendour Friday 4/13

(Oops, it appears I skipped a couple of weeks)

Another act I'm super duper excited about seeing at Splendour is Snakadaktal. I have no idea what this song means, the lyrics make no sense to me at all, but I still love it. It's the perfect song for driving in the rain, calm and soothing and sweet.

In 2011, Snakadaktal actually won Triple J Unearthed High, an Australian competition looking for highschool bands with major talent. This song, Air, went on to play on Triple J, which is a major radio station!

Awesome! Can't wait to see this live!

Splendour Friday 2/13!

Well ladies and gents, yesterday happened to be one of the most stressful days EVER. Yesterday was the day I bought my Splendour in the Grass tickets! I heard on the radio that they changed sites this year which basically cut ticket sales in half. This is already a show that sells out in an hour!

I woke up yesterday at 7am to mentally prepare myself for the 9am ticket purchasing time. We overcame a couple of obstacles (damn you slow internet!) and after a 45 minute wait in the "green room" (a separate website that slotted you into the Moshtix ticket buying website) I BOUGHT TICKETS!!

And guess what?! They're sold out now! All gone! Less than 24 hours later. I am beyond excited, it's going to be the biggest and best birthday party ever!!

HAIM - Don't Save Me

HAIM is one of the bands that I discovered through Spendour (I've been downloading and listening to all of the bands to get even more stoked for the event!!) and I love their sound. So smooth and sweet and indie. I love it!

Check em out!
