I Heart Handmade (PLUS A GIVEAWAY!): Sivado Studio!

 1. When did you first start making custom metal pieces? When did you start selling your goods on Etsy?

I made my first piece when I was 6 years old. Ok, my dad helped a little bit…we wanted to make a tiny bowl for my mom, but when we finished the piece it turned out to be an ashtray. She still loved it even though she did not smoke! We created many pieces together throughout the years and I started to make jewelry about eight years ago. I mostly sell my pieces online and I opened my Etsy shop in March 2012.

2. Tell me a little bit about the creating process, where does your inspiration come from?

Inspiration is all around me all the time and mostly coming from family and people around me. To me, the process of creating custom jewelry is a form of storytelling.

3. Tell us a little bit about your dad and how he's inspired your work with metal?

My biggest influence is my dad. When I was little,  I spent countless hours in the basement watching him work, occasionally I helped of course, I was fascinated by the process how he would turn a piece of metal into a beautiful piece.

4. Which of your pieces is your fave?

My most favorite pieces are the Nana and the Mommy necklaces. If anyone wants to let their mom know that there is a little one on the way, just gift one of my Nana necklace to her and make sure you have your camera handy! I also love the initial necklaces, I stamped my daughter’s initial on mine, (it’s a great way to “brag”)

5. How has owning an Etsy shop changed your creative process? Has it made it better or worse?

It definitely made it better. Working with customers widened the possibilities. I love to combine their ideas with mine. I think this is the only way we can create truly special pieces for them.

6. What is your favorite thing about handmade goods?

I buy a lot of handmade goodies from all over the world through Etsy, but I don’t have a favorite reason why I like handmade goods, I have many… I find handmade goods special, thoughtful, they’re made with care and love. I like the uniqueness of each piece I purchase. I also love to support talented artists all over the world, who are passionate of their work.

Judith is sweet enough to offer one reader a custom stamped gold filed initial necklace, and she sent me one too! I've been wearing it non stop!

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is head over to Judith's Etsy shop, Sivado Studio and check out all of her goodies, and leave a comment with your fave piece and your email address! I'll be picking a comment at random, and the winner will be announced on Thursday October 17th!

If you can't wait, Judith is offering 10% off with the code: BECKY
